Abby Hanna
About
I am about to graduate from the Eastman School of Music in Cello Performance and earn my Bachelor's in Music. I have dedicated most of my time to the Cello and was most recently the recipient of the 2024 Presser Scholar Award, nominated by the Eastman School of Music, as well as the 2023 recipient of the New York Federation of Music Award at Chautauqua Institution.
In addition to cello, I am a classically trained soprano and have placed in several national and regional competitions including Hal Leonard and NATS. I have a lot of formal training in Musical Theatre; performing in many productions in Milwaukee, WI.
As an Ecuadorian-American I am the first in my family to pursue a career in music, and I am hoping to become a dedicated teacher this summer.
Teaching Style
I am very flexible as a teacher, I do not have any rigid technical approach since all students are different. I would encourage for them to ask any and all questions and ask them at the beginning of the lesson what they would like to achieve and what music they are bringing to work on so I can curate a plan on the spot.
Curriculum
I recommend everyone purchase the music books they would like to study from and I recommend the Piano Adventures books for beginner pianists and Suzuki books for beginner cellists. I don't have a book certification for either but I would encourage students to look up and print out the music they are most passionate about because we can really start their training anywhere if they want to learn to sing. I would recommend them find a scale or technique book for sure.
