Adam Tune
About
Adam grew up listening to his dad practice trombone at home, and started playing clarinet in the fourth grade. In middle school, he started learning guitar and writing his own songs. In high school, Adam produced an album for his solo project and distributed his CDs.
Adam studied Composition and Arranging at Azusa Pacific University, where he was a Music Theory TA and tutor. He's motivated by an intense curiosity and passion for music, and has never met a chord or scale he didn't find intriguing.
Adam has taught/currently teaches at Allegra Music Academy in Tarzana, Guitar Center, and the Children's Music Academy in Ventura. He has also taught private lessons through TakeLessons and independently for over a decade.
Professionally, Adam has worked as a composer, arranger, engraver, and music librarian for several high-level projects. He worked as a music librarian for an orchestral live-to-film performances of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Rocketman, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theater, and frequently works using Sibelius to prepare sheet music.
Adam currently performs in several hard rock/punk/emo/metal bands, has performed at LA Live, worked as a music librarian on live-to-film performances at the Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theater, and teaches at a variety of music schools in the southern California area.
Teaching Style
Adam's teaching style helps students understand important concepts and to enjoy their musical journey. Lessons are always structured with students' goals in mind, to help them become the musician they aspire to be.
Curriculum
For guitar, Adam recommends the First Book for the Guitar by Frederic Noad as a great starting point for all ages, and thereafter (or for a more advanced student) A Modern Method for Guitar by William Leavitt. Depending on the student's interests, other texts or songs will be recommended.
For piano, Adam recommends the Alfred's All-in-One Course (for young students) or the Alfred's Adult All-in-One Course (for older students).
For voice, Adam recommends the Folk Song Sight Singing Series as a supplement to the vocal exercises/repertoire covered in the lessons.
For all lessons, Adam works with students to help them learn songs they are personally interested in, as well as offering recommendations for songs that would help the student grow as a musician.
