Allison Brooks
About
A veteran music teacher who's has been teaching in the public school system for 22 years, I enjoy helping students learn to play music. Many of those years I also taught private music lessons at local music studios. In 2020, when having to pivot to online teaching, I learned to enjoy teaching music remotely and would like to continue that in teaching private lessons. I have a bachelors in music education and a masters in music performance. I also hold a doctorate degree in education. I am the co-owner/founder and lead alto saxophonist in THE Groove City Big Band (see link below). I am currently teaching piano (beginner to intermediate) and saxophone lessons (beginner to advanced). I can't wait to help you grow in your instrument playing and music knowledge.
Teaching Style
I like to meet students where they are and at their current school skill level. I like to create an environment where students have fun but also learn skills necessary to advance to the next level. I ensure students have a great foundation when beginning, so they can build upon their knowledge.
Curriculum
I recommend the Standard of Excellence books or the Essential Elements books. These allow students to begin at their skill level and advance. Students will advance their musicianship through the series of books. I also recommend solo repertoire based on the student's current skill level. For piano, I recommend the Alfred series of books.
