Amber Ramsay
About
I have a decade of experience working as an independent musician; writing, producing and performing original music. For the past 5 years I have dedicated myself to the education of music and studying relevant pedagogy so I can share my passion of music with others. I have been developing my teaching approach through a broad range of students in both age and skill level, as well as through different instruments. Though I work with many instruments in my practice, my primary passion is the piano.
After graduating high school I completed a Bachelor of Music Degree at QUT, while performing and writing for multiple bands such as Cloud Tangle, Noir et Blanc, sleepclub, Post Dream, Sebya, Devotions, Edgar Hurley, etc.. I worked for Tia Gostelow for 2 years as a session keyboard player and vocalist, touring and performing festivals, shows and a Like a Version (Triple J). I have now written and recorded 5 solo studio albums, released through artist-led label 4000 Records. I have had amazing opportunities through my music career such as singing/acting in a Grammy award nominated movie, as well as singing on a record produced by a multiple Grammy award winner.
I have been playing piano for 20 years, completed an AMEB Grade 8 Piano Comprehensive & Theory of Music Level 2, and am working towards my Piano Diploma also through AMEB. Recently, I taught piano for 2 years at SONO School of Music, with a broad range of students from beginner to advanced, followed by 1 year teaching for Ready Set Rock, where I worked in various primary schools teaching piano, vocals and group classes. Now I teach privately from my home studio while I complete my Masters Degree in Primary Education, at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Teaching Style
Lessons are planned around your goals. This could be learning the basics of the instrument, through to songwriting or preparing for exams or concerts. I'll be able to plan and guide you along the way, drawing from my knowledge of technique, repertoire, learning theories and research. Most importantly I am a student myself who is passionate to always continue learning new things, so I am in touch with how it feels to be in the students shoes. My teaching style is based on patience, honesty and genuine care and passion for the students progress.
Curriculum
During lessons we can discuss any learning materials that would be suitable or needed. It is highly recommended that you have an instrument to practice on as soon as lessons commence, and you are willing to purchase the necessary book/s that will aide your independent practice.
