Teaching Style

Mr. Fayette's teaching style is best described as adaptable and student-centric.  Drawing on over 2 decades of teaching experience, the most important part of his approach is that every student is different.  However, there are a few pillars of his teaching that are discussed with nearly every student.

1. Practice Skills: Understanding that even the best student will have their share of struggles in the practice room, teaching practice skills is an essential part of the learning process.

2. Creativity: Adjusting for age and level of playing, students are given appropriate levels of decision-making power as they mature and progress.

3. Independence: Students are encouraged to take initiative and push forward beyond assignments, or in some cases to bring unassigned material into a lesson.  If it means the student is spending more time with their instrument, it is welcome.

Curriculum

Mr. Fayette is conversant in a variety of teaching methods, including Essential Elements, Suzuki, and more.  However, the individual method with each student is assigned on a case-by-case basis depending on the needs of the student.  Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Essential Elements, The Suzuki Books, and/or String Builder.
