Ana Feijó
About
Composer & Vocalist (Columbia University) teaching Piano, Voice & Songwriting Online
Greeting! I’m Ana: a Brazilian composer, pianist, and vocalist with musical roots in Rio and New York. I hold a Music degree in Composition & Philosophy from Columbia University, and my background blends classical training, jazz harmony, Brazilian music, and contemporary composition.
I’m an active music artist with experience in studio recording, arranging, and live performance. I’ve worked with jazz musicians, classical/opera mentors, social-music projects with youth in Rio, and contemporary composers in NYC. This gives me a broad, grounded view of how music works in real creative settings.
As a teacher, I’m intuitive, clear, and attentive. I help students build both technique and artistic identity — whether in piano, voice, songwriting, or composition. I enjoy working with adult beginners as much as developing musicians looking for structure, creativity, and confidence. My goal is to make music feel expressive, understandable, and genuinely yours.
Teaching Style
I teach with a calm, intuitive, and structured approach. I listen closely to what each student needs and adjust the pace accordingly. My style combines method with creativity. I explain concepts clearly, connect technique to expression, and help you understand the “why” behind what you play or sing.
Lessons are welcoming, relaxed, and focused on genuine musical growth. I work especially well with adult beginners, returning musicians, and students who want a teacher who is warm but focused, creative but disciplined. My aim is always to help you feel confident and at home in your own musical language.
Curriculum
Piano:
Warm-up → technique (scales, chords, reading, or hand relaxation) → repertoire → phrasing & interpretation → optional improvisation or harmony. I choose or adapt methods depending on your goals. For beginners, we focus on coordination, rhythm, and musical understanding.
Voice:
Breathing & resonance → light technical exercises → singing a song of your choice → phrasing, tone, interpretation → reflection on what improved. I emphasize listening, stylistic awareness, and expressive clarity.
Songwriting & Composition:
Melody first → harmony options → form → lyrics or texture → arranging choices → demo creation if desired. I also help with DAW workflow (Logic, Ableton), sheet music software (Sibelius, Musescore), and studio preparation.
Production / Recording:
Logic Pro and Ableton. Creative direction → defining sound palette → arrangement layers → guide vocals/instrumentals → feedback and refinement. I help students build clarity and structure so their ideas become finished work.
