About

Anne Chao is a 24-year-old flutist who was born in the United States and raised in Taiwan. She is passionate about connecting with audiences through music, and her performances span a wide range of settings—from concert halls to hospitals, nursing homes, and community spaces—bringing meaningful musical experiences to diverse communities.

Anne received her Bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory and is currently completing her Master’s degree under the guidance of Dr. Renee Krimsier. She previously studied with renowned flutists Shu-Chun Chiang, Tzu Kao, and Hui-Hsueh Sun. In Fall 2025, she will begin her Doctor of Musical Arts studies at the New England Conservatory with Cindy Meyers.

A devoted chamber musician, Anne finds deep joy in collaboration and chamber music playing. She was a flute fellow at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in 2024, and her wind quintet, Nth° Wind Quintet, was named one of the Honors Ensembles at the New England Conservatory.

She has appeared in performances such as the First Monday Series at NEC (2023), “Ligeti 100” at Symphony Hall (2024), “Music for the Senses” at Symphony Hall Boston (2024), and “What I Hear” – Roberto Sierra (BSO Prelude Concert) at NEC (2024). As both soloist and collaborator, Anne continues to explore a wide range of repertoire, with a particular interest in contemporary and community-centered performance.

Her musical journey has also been recognized with numerous awards, including first prize in the National Student Music Competition in Taiwan (2019), second prize in the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition (2022), second prize in the New Jersey Flute Society Young Artist Competition (2023), and the William H. Grass Memorial Prize in the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition (2024). She was a quarter-finalist in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition in both 2023 and 2024.

Teaching Style

I believe that every student has a unique voice, and my role as a teacher is to help them discover and develop it through the flute. Whether a student is preparing for auditions or learning for personal enjoyment, I aim to create a supportive, structured, and inspiring environment where growth feels both meaningful and joyful.

My teaching emphasizes strong fundamentals—tone, technique, rhythm, and musicality—while also encouraging curiosity, creativity, and self-expression. I value clear communication and adapt my approach to meet each student’s learning style and goals.

Above all, I want my students to enjoy the process of making music and to build confidence that extends beyond the practice room.
