About

I'm a composer with over 20 years of expertise in composition and 14 years in teaching. Holding a master's degree in composition from the University of Birmingham, I have a genuine enthusiasm for sharing my musical knowledge. My portfolio includes solo compositions, a 4-act chamber opera, and eight film scores, reflecting my passion for diverse musical expressions. I had the privilege of serving as the inaugural Director of the School of Music at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, where I developed educational leadership skills. Currently, I teach composition and orchestration at UPC. If you're eager to explore the world of music and deepen your understanding, I warmly invite you to book a lesson with me. Let's embark on this musical journey together. IMPORTANT: Because I teach on other platforms and my schedule changes constantly, I can't offer open hours. Please contact me to schedule a time.

Teaching Style

Composition
I guide students in composing music, focusing on assignments and offering feedback for improvement. Basic music theory is required, and additional concepts are covered during lessons. The emphasis is on commenting on musical examples and encouraging originality without imposing a specific style.

Orchestration
For beginners, I cover orchestral instrument basics, including range and techniques. Assignments progress from scoring for strings to a full orchestra. Basic music theory knowledge is necessary, similar to composition lessons.

Film Scoring
With years of experience, I teach film music, covering narrative musical functions and the role of musical language in films. Students create music for short videos, receiving specific instructions. Topics also include the film composition process and legal aspects.

Music Notation Software
Having used Sibelius for over 20 years and now proficient in Dorico, MuseScore, and intermediate-level Lilypond, I offer assistance in learning and troubleshooting these programs. Whether you're a beginner or facing specific notation challenges, I can guide you through sessions tailored to your needs.
