Apostolos Alexiou
About
I am a classical piano and music theory teacher with over 35 years of experience, working with adult beginners (18+), advanced students, and university-level musicians.
I help students build a solid classical foundation, develop real musical understanding, and gain confidence in piano playing, harmony, ear training, and musical thinking. Whether you are starting later in life or preparing for conservatory or university studies, lessons are always structured, clear, and adapted to your goals.
I studied piano and theory at the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens, the Macedonian Conservatory of Thessaloniki, and the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa. I hold a Piano Diploma and degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue. I also studied in the United States with Dr. Raymond Jackson (piano) and Irwin Stahl (harmony and counterpoint), and attended seminars at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg.
For over three decades (1982–2022), I served as a full-time, tenured professor at the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa, teaching piano, harmony, solfège and ear training, counterpoint, and fugue. Alongside teaching, I have given numerous solo and chamber music performances and collaborated with symphony orchestras.
From 2006 to 2023, I was Director of the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa and coordinated long-term international collaborations with the Professional School of Music of Bad Königshofen (Bavaria), including student exchange programs and joint artistic projects.
Teaching Style
My teaching is student-centered, supportive, and clearly structured. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s level, background, and musical interests.
For beginners, I focus on building strong fundamentals step by step, without rushing or confusion. For advanced students, we work in depth on musical analysis, stylistic understanding, and technical refinement.
Lessons combine:
-
technical security and musical expression
-
practical harmony and ear training
-
live examples and written notation
-
historical and artistic context
Harmony, counterpoint, and fugue are taught through a balanced integration of theory, listening, keyboard application, and modern notation software.
I have successfully prepared many students for entrance exams and academic studies, with a 100% success rate for admission to university-level music programs in Greece, Europe, and North America.
