Aviv Porath
About
Hi, my name is Aviv Porath. I'm originally from New York City, but have spent time in Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Tel Aviv, and Taipei. I have a music degree from Bard College, where I studied jazz composition, theory, and arrangement. I have a funk-fusion band based in NYC (where I am the singer/guitarist/composer), but we've traveled around the US and Canada on tour twice. I love exploring genres from around the world, but my strongest are blues rock, jazz, neo-soul, bossa nova, and middle eastern/balkan. I love to compose and have recorded/produced one album and 4 singles with various different projects. I can also play the bass, piano, and sing. I have been teaching guitar in person and remotely for the past few years, and I really love it!
Teaching Style
My teaching style will be catered to the student. We can explore songwriting, music theory, jazz harmony, pop music production, or any genre of interest from around the world. I like to make the classes fun and interactive, but make sure to provide the student with a firm base of music theory, chord harmony, and guitar technique to produce a proficient and well rounded musician.
