Ayumi Okada
About
Ayumi Okada is a composer, pianist, and educator. She graduated from Kyoto University of Education (Kyoto, Japan) with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, and then graduated from Mannes College of Music (New York) with a Master's degree in Music Composition.
Teaching Style
I started teaching piano during my college days and now have 16 years of experience teaching students from ages 5 to 65. The most important thing for me as a piano teacher is to provide a safe space for the student to play during the lesson. I don't stop students while they're playing any piece for the first time so that they can focus on playing the material without fear of being stopped any moment they make mistakes. I'd like to ensure the opportunities for students to make mistakes, find out about them, then correct them on their own, during lessons while I'll be there to support and guide them.
Curriculum
I use Alfred's textbook as the main material but often make original supporting materials to provide customized lessons to each student, depending on their need. For online lessons, I also often follow up with "reference" videos to help them practice their homework.
