About
Hi! I’m a friendly and experienced band teacher specializing in beginner to intermediate students on flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and French horn. I also offer advanced lessons on clarinet. I love working with students ages 9–18 and helping them build strong fundamentals, confidence, and a love for music.
Whether you’re just starting out on your band instrument or preparing for school auditions, I’ll tailor each lesson to your goals and pace. My teaching style is upbeat, clear, and supportive—I focus on building technique while keeping music fun and rewarding.
Let’s make music together!
Teaching Style
I have 12 years of experience teaching Band, General Music and Private Lessons. I have played the clarinet for more than 35 years and have performed as a clarinetist in the Northern Symphony Orchestra since 2009. One of the highlights of my career was winning the concerto contest as an undergraduate at The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I performed Aaron Copland's "Concerto for Clarinet" with the University Wind Ensemble. I also loved auditioning for and getting into All-State Band for 2 years when I was in High School.
Curriculum
I teach students where they are at, whether they have never touched an instrument before or they are preparing for college auditions. I listen closely to their goals and teach them to be independent from me when they practice at home by teaching them about what resources they have when I'm not available to ask. I use the following Method books:
Rubank Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Methods
Selected Studies for Clarinet by H. Voxman
Masterworks for Clarinet and Piano by Weber, Schumann, Mendelssohn, and Brahms
Melodious and Progressive Studies Book 1 by David Hite
Credentials & Affiliations
Bachelors Degree in K-12 Instrumental and General Music from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
