Ben Woodward
About
I'm a pianist, conductor and an opera coach most of the time, as well as an arranger and general all-round musician. I've had hundreds of piano students over the years, and have taken many of them all the way from beginner to grade 8 and beyond.
I also teach professional singers how to make their singing more convincing as an opera coach - NB - not a singing teacher!
I'm very happy teaching anyone from about 6 years old up through life-long-learners.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is very much tailored to the individual person, as everybody's strengths and challenges when it comes to music-learning are different. I'm very easy going, and in no way strict, as ultimately it's up to you how much practice you do!
Curriculum
For beginners, I like Piano Time, as people move on up through the grades, I like the ABRSM system combined with a series of books called Upgrade by Pam Wedgewood in between. I also have a huge repertoire of music I can recommend students study as they get more competent.
Credentials & Affiliations
I was a organ, piano and viola student at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, then I was organ scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge, and then I was an opera repetiteur at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I have worked at several theatres in Germany, and indeed the Royal Opera in London.
