Benjamin Thomas Lassiter
About
Hello, I'm Ben!
I teach guitar, electric bass, and violin. I've been a guitar teacher for over twenty years and have taught hundred hundreds of students how to play.
I teach students a mix between songs they want to learn, and exercises that develop strong musical fundamentals. I help students learn to read music and understand music theory so they can become a well rounded musician.
Teaching Style
I taught at a private teaching studio in Durham, North Carolina for 12 years. I ran the "School of rock" program that got kids playing in ensembles together. Each Saturday I helped six bands rehearse their songs. I wrote their arrangements and by the end of the semester the kids were performing at a local club.
I am currently adjunct faculty at Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. I have a Masters in Music from North Carolina Central University, where I studied jazz with Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo.
I enjoy playing in the style of Django Reinhardt.
Curriculum
To start reading music on guitar, I reccomend Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method, Grade 1 Expanded Edition.
For jazz, check out a 'Real Book'.
