About

I’m a bluegrass and roots mandolinist and teacher based in Golden, Colorado. My musical background is rooted in old-time and bluegrass traditions, but I’m certainly interested in other styles and enjoy learning from music outside those lanes as well.

I have about fifteen years of experience performing and recording with a variety of artists and ensembles, which has shaped my approach to rhythm, tone, and musical communication. Through those experiences, I’ve learned the value of listening closely, supporting the song, and adapting to different musical settings.

Alongside performing, I’m passionate about teaching and sharing the music in a way that feels approachable, practical, and grounded in tradition. Whether working with beginners or more experienced players, my goal is to help students build strong fundamentals, develop their ear, and find their own voice on the instrument.

Teaching Style

I’ve been teaching mandolin privately since 2018, and I really enjoy working with students one-on-one to help them find an approach that fits their goals, interests, and learning style. I try to create a personalized learning experience that supports both technical growth and creative confidence.

In my lessons, I focus on keeping things engaging and hands-on, with practical material that students can immediately apply to their playing. Drawing from my experience as a performing musician, I place a strong emphasis on learning by ear, improvising, and developing the skills needed to play comfortably with other musicians.

I recently had the opportunity to teach mandolin in Nepal for three months with the Bluegrass Journeymen! It was an incredibly enriching experience both personally and professionally.
