Brian Zane
About
Hi! I’m Brian Zane — a professional actor, teaching artist, and proud member of Actors’ Equity Association. I hold an MFA in Acting, an MA in Educational Theatre, and have nearly 20 years of experience teaching and performing across the U.S.
My acting work spans classical theatre, contemporary plays, regional productions, and musical theatre. I’ve also worked as a music director, singer, and pianist, and love helping students connect text, music, and character with authenticity.
I teach all levels — from passionate beginners to pre-professionals — and bring a warm, neurodivergent-friendly approach to the room.
Teaching Style
I create a supportive and encouraging space where students feel safe to explore, experiment, and take risks. I help actors recognize the inner critic — that judging voice that tries to control or censor their work — and learn to observe it without letting it rule the process, simply saying, “Thank you, I don’t need you right now.” Instead, I encourage students to trust their subconscious, where creative freedom lives, and to learn to be free onstage or on camera.
My teaching is patient, attentive, and adaptable — meeting each student where they are and tailoring feedback to their unique learning style. With a neurodivergent-friendly mindset, I value authenticity and individuality over perfection.
My sessions balance focused work with playfulness, helping students build confidence while deepening their emotional truth and presence. Whether you’re new to acting or refining advanced skills, I aim to make every lesson meaningful, empowering, and joyful.
Curriculum
My teaching is rooted in organic, process-based training, primarily drawing from the Demidov Technique — a revolutionary, intuitive method that helps actors let go of rigid control and respond truthfully in the moment. We work on observing the judging mind without letting it take over, instead trusting the subconscious — where spontaneity, emotional truth, and creative freedom live.
I also incorporate tools from classical acting traditions, with additional influences from Fitzmaurice Voicework, Viewpoints, and Williamson Technique, depending on the student and the work.
For musical theatre students, I focus on acting the song, helping connect music and lyrics to emotional and psychological truth. Each session is tailored to the actor’s goals — from building foundational skills to preparing auditions to deepening character work.
