About

My name is Caitlin Edwards and I've been playing and writing music for twenty years. I play guitar, violin, and ukulele. I have my Bachelors of Music (Music Therapy) from Western Illinois University. I am a board certified music therapist, but I also give music lessons. I can provide beginner to expert guitar, violin, and ukulele lessons for all ages. I've played in the Neuqua Valley High School orchestra, Western Illinois University Symphony and Chamber orchestras (1st and 2nd chair), North Central College's pit orchestra in Naperville, IL. I also perform solo violin gigs for weddings, funerals, and bands. I also currently perform in two rock bands where I sing and play guitar. I received violin lessons from Dr. Julieta Mihai at Western Illinois University and Christie Abe. I am a self-taught guitarist. I previously taught guitar at Naperville Music and School of Rock Plainfield. At Western Illinois University, I performed with many international soloists,  the rock band Kansas, and professors from different universities. I enjoy rock, folk, blues, jazz, and classical music. Music is my life. I know how it can greatly impact anyone's life for the better. I believe learning a musical skill is something someone can cherish for the rest of their life.

Teaching Style

I learned how to read and write music at ten years old. I was in my high school orchestra playing the violin. I taught myself how to play guitar, write music, and read chords/tabs. I have my Bachelors of Music (Music Therapy) from Western Illinois University. I have given guitar lessons in the past at music stores in my community. I continue to play guitar and sing in two bands. I like to find out what type of music my student likes, what are their goals for playing an instrument, what songs or skills they would like to learn.

Curriculum

For guitar and ukulele lessons, I write down the scales, tabs, and chords for my students. If the student wishes, I also have beginner and intermediate guitar books we can use.

For violin lessons, I use books like Essentials For Strings or Suzuki Method. These are common books violinists at any skill level use.
