About

My name is Carlo Máynez, and I am a professional cellist and educator with over 15 years of experience performing and teaching internationally. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. During my training, I won the First Prize at the National Cello Competition in Monterrey (2010), which led to solo appearances across Mexico and abroad. As a performer, I have appeared in festivals and concert halls in Mexico, the United States, Spain, Canada, and Venezuela. Highlights include concerto performances with the Michoacan Symphony Orchestra, chamber music recitals in venues such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), and premieres of contemporary works by Latin American composers. My repertoire includes all the standard cello repertoire, chamber music masterworks, and numerous modern compositions. Alongside my performing career, I have built extensive teaching experience both in-person and online. I have taught cello for almost a decade, working with private studios in Mexico City and San Francisco, as well as coaching chamber music and orchestral sectionals for youth programs. Since 2020, I have specialized in online teaching, guiding students of all ages and levels across North and South America. Many of my students have successfully auditioned for youth orchestras, conservatories, and university programs, while others study for personal enrichment.

Teaching Style

In my lessons, I combine the discipline of classical training with a student-centered approach. I emphasize healthy technique, musical expression, and confidence, tailoring lessons to each student’s goals—whether that is preparing for auditions, improving ensemble playing, or simply enjoying the cello as a creative outlet.
