Carola Ortiz

As an ARTIST:

Carola lives in Barcelona, where she received a classical clarinet training for 15 years and graduated in Voice Jazz Bachelor in ESMUC. She has three albums as a singer, clarinetist & composer that have been recognized by national and international press: SIRIN (2016) ,  SPIRALA (2018) , PECATA BEATA (2021) and CANTARERAS (2023). She has also traveled and performed in different international festivals with folk, world music bands as well as with her own band in Spain, USA, India, Canada, Colombia, UK, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, France, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Algeria, Turkey and Greece.

As a Teacher: 

She is currently a clarinet, voice, improvisation & world music group Teacher in Bachelor school ESEM  in Barcelona. She has been teaching there for 7 years:  Jazz Voice, Improvisation, World Music Group & Stage Presence. She also teaches intermediate Clarinet Players, since she has been playing the clarinet non-stop for 28 years!  She also gives workshops about Spanish and Balkan Folklore with percussion tips included.

I like to improvise and feel a connection with the student in first classes to see what is the inner musical world and what could be enriched. 

I can help you if you are interested in learn about Mediterranean and Balkan Music, Flamenco singing, Jazz Singing, Jazz Clarinet, and if you are interested in repertoire of Brasilian Music (Choro, Baiao, Samba, Bossa Nova)

I can also teach how to play percusion and to sing at the same time.  

As a technical skill I use Voice Craft vocal technique (scientific method) and flamenco melisms and warm ups. As well as some arabic and mediterranean folk styles to use and explore different voice colors. 

I can also help you improve in the improvisation skills with the use and study of different scales & harmonies. 

We can work on ear training as well to improve your tuning and interval consciousness.  

If you are a clarinet player I can teach you clarinet repertoires from brazilian choro to balkan & klezmer tunes.
