About

Catherine Edwards graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University with a Bachelor of Music in Performance, having studied under renowned clarinettist and composer Paul Dean. Throughout her training, she had the opportunity to learn directly from world-class clarinettists including Andrew Marriner, Robert Spring, and Philippe Cuper, and have participated in international programs such as the Belgium Clarinet Academy, and was recently invited to participate in the PRISMA Festival in Powell River, Canada. Since 2018, she has maintained an active private teaching studio where she teaches clarinet and piano, while also gaining significant experience as a specialist clarinet tutor in schools and music academies. With extensive performance experience, including work with Ensemble Q, leading roles in the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Youth Orchestras, Catherine is an avid and passionate performer and musician who is thrilled to share her love of music with. She is a casual clarinettist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. 

Teaching Style

Catherine is a passionate performer and educator. She brings the same energy and artistry to her teaching, aiming to inspire curiosity, confidence, and independence in her students. Her teaching style is encouraging, structured, and responsive to individual needs - whether nurturing young beginners or guiding advanced players toward excellence. Catherine believes in creating a supportive environment where students feel empowered to take risks, express themselves musically, and develop both technical skill and musicality.

Since 2018, she has guided many young musicians through successful AMEB exam preparations, but equally values helping each student discover their own personal connection to music. Catherine is passionate about nurturing curiosity, confidence, and creativity in her students, and is committed to helping them find music that resonates with their individuality—so they can grow not only as musicians, but as expressive and joyful learners.
