Cecilia Sousa
About
A native New Englander, Cecilia (Miss Ceci) was born and raised in the state of New Hampshire. Although she was not born into a musical family, Cecilia loved music from a young age and spent her younger years playing violin, participating in youth ensembles, and singing in church. During high school, Cecilia learned about music therapy - a perfect match for her with a combination of music, helping others achieve their goals, and problem solving. She decided to pursue music therapy as a career. She also began self-studying guitar and taking classical voice lessons, which she continued to do during her undergraduate studies.
Cecilia attended Charleston Southern University to obtain her bachelor's degree in music therapy with voice as her primary instrument of study. She successfully passed the music therapy national board exam shortly after graduating. Cecilia's education includes training in music theory, piano, voice, guitar, ukulele and world percussion, as well as psychology and music therapy techniques. She also completed 6 semesters of clinical experience and 10 month music therapy internship at Manchester Community Music School.
Cecilia has been a private music instructor for 10 years, teaching students inside their homes and in group settings. She has also been a music therapist for 5 years, providing individual and group music therapy services for clients of varying ages and abilities. Cecilia has worked as a music therapist through a community music school, privately, and in an early intervention program.
Teaching Style
Over several years of providing music instruction and music therapy, Cecilia has served a wide variety of clients with varying learning styles. That experience has led her to value an individualized approach in all of her sessions. She believes that it is important to emphasize on the strengths that each individual brings, while also supporting them in learning new skills. Cecilia uses her expertise to create goals and objectives that are important for the client, while also addressing their own personal goals.
