About

Welcome to my page! My name is Claire and I am so excited to meet you. I have completed my Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy with a focus on my primary, violin, and am currently completing my internship in music therapy as a final portion of my education.

Music has always been a part of my life, and I love having the opportunity to share music with others through teaching. I have 5+ years of teaching experience and a decade of music experience.

My teaching and professional experience includes freelancing; teaching voice, violin, and piano, at Expressions Music Academy; choir director of St. Augustine Homeschool Education Program; wedding musician; second violin in the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra; concertmaster and soloist of the Immanual School of Music Summer Orchestra; first violin in the Eastern Michigan University Orchestra.

Additionally, I am passionate about helping to unlock a person's creativity through the process of songwriting and improvisation. Songwriting is a very personalized, and sometimes intimidating experience, so I focus on helping give students the tools to feel comfortable improvising on their instruments and beginning to write songs.

Please note: while my formal college degree is in music therapy, I can only provide music lessons, not virtual music therapy sessions.

Teaching Style

I take a blended, success-oriented approach to teaching. Music should be fun! While building healthy practice habits and good technique is critical to growth, it is important to me to provide a space where questions and creativity are welcomed. For violin, I focus on building a solid foundation while also exploring student-preferred music to make meaningful and motivating experiences.

Curriculum

My teaching style blends the traditional classical principles of Suzuki, Sassmannshaus, and Flesch, alongside a success-and-creativity-oriented approach to music making. For beginner violin students, I recommend having Suzuki Book 1 and a notebook. For older or more advanced students, a copy of Carl Flesch Scale Systems is also useful.
