Clay Mottley
About
I love music - playing, writing and teaching it! And I want to help you love performing music too, whether in your living room, coffee house or on big stage!
I've taught private and group lessons for 20+ years. I've also been a music director at a church for 20 years, recorded several albums of original material, and perform countless events.
Currently, I tour nationally with country singer Tony Jackson as a musician and music director, as well as writing, recording and performing my own original music regionally in and around Richmond, VA.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is relaxed, student-focused and incorporates music theory and ear-training. Music should be fun, and so should the lessons. Learning to play an instrument takes a lot of work, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable along the journey!
Curriculum
My curriculum is based on the student's goals. In the past, I have used a combination of existing book methods, music theory, ear training, rhythm exercises and more. I will cater my approach based on what the student is looking to learn, and incorporate what the student should know to get there.
