About

Colin has been a performing and recording upright and electric bassist for over 8 years.  Hailing from Vancouver and now residing in Montreal, Colin has been a popular accompanist for musicians of all styles, specializing in jazz, R&B, pop, rock, country, and folk.  Colin is highly regarded for his collaborative spirit and creative contributions.  Apart from his work as an accompanist, Colin also performs as bandleader and composes for jazz ensembles.

In recent years, I’ve had the pleasure of performing alongside many of Canada’s great jazz musicians including Bill Coon, Brad Turner, Caity Gyorgy, Jennifer Scott, John Lee, Miles Black and Oliver Gannon.

In 2023, I completed a Canadian tour performing with both the Matt Franceschini Trio and JUB!, with notable performances at Frankie’s Jazz Club in Vancouver BC, Hirut Cafe in Toronto ON, and the Rod & Gun in Parksville BC. Later the same year, my group MTN HWY (Mountain Highway) released their debut EP “Through the Trees” which features one composition by each member of the group, including my own work “Death to a Star”.

Teaching Style

With Colin, students learn what they want to learn, the most important part of learning an instrument is to enjoy the process and to keep at it!  Colin will personalize the lesson content to meet students wherever they happen to be in their musical journey, and to keep them excited about learning.  This includes helping students to set goals and select repertoire from their favourite songs.  When it comes to theory, Colin takes a practical approach; theory will always be explained with real world examples and applications, so you can put your theory knowledge to use right away!
