About
I have been playing jazz guitar since the 1990s and have been teaching private guitar lessons to beginners and adult students since 2006. In high school, I performed in an award-winning stage band that competed at MusicFest Canada Nationals, where I was selected for the All-Star Band under the direction of Rob McConnell. I also studied jazz improvisation with saxophonist Bob Mover from 1994–1996 and later pursued bouzouki and Greek music studies in Athens, Greece with Manolis Mihalakis from 1997–2000
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, I performed professionally in both Canada and the United States. I led my own trio at the Paddock Tavern during the Toronto Jazz Festival in 2014 and 2015, and appeared at Top of the Senator (now Jazz Bistro) and The Rex in Toronto with the Jake Wilkinson Quintet and the Bob Mover Quartet. In New York City, I performed at Smalls Jazz Club with Ilya Lushtak and at Little Branch with Phil Stewart, Clovis Nicolas, and Dmitri Baevsky. In addition to jazz guitar, I regularly perform Greek popular and traditional music on bouzouki at festivals and cultural events throughout the Southeastern United States.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is clear, relaxed, and practical, with a strong emphasis on helping adult beginners feel comfortable while making steady, measurable progress. Lessons are structured and goal-oriented, focusing on solid fundamentals such as technique, rhythm, basic theory, and musical awareness. I provide simple reference materials and clear practice guidance so students always understand what to work on between sessions.
I aim to create a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and concepts are explained in straightforward language. My goal is not just to teach songs, but to help students understand how music works so they can continue growing independently and confidently in the styles they enjoy.
Curriculum
Lessons follow a structured, modular curriculum designed specifically for adult beginners. Rather than relying on a single commercial method book, I provide my own reference worksheets that support each lesson and help guide practice between sessions. These materials focus on core skills such as chords, rhythm, and understanding common chord progressions, allowing students to build fluency and musical confidence over time. No additional books are required to get started. I have attached a couple of examples
