Dare Omotayo
About
Hello! I am a professional flutist, educator, composer, and ensemble director with over seventeen years of performing experience and thirteen years of teaching experience across classical, jazz, pop, African traditional, and contemporary music. I perform on several instruments within the flute family, including the concert flute, piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute.
One of my greatest joys as a musician is helping students unlock their musical potential and watching their confidence grow as they develop their skills.
I teach students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced performers, and specialize in helping students prepare for graded examinations, auditions, competitions, and orchestral performance. My lessons focus on building strong technique, musical expression, and confidence while developing a solid foundation for long-term musical growth.
My artistic development has included mentorship with internationally acclaimed flutists such as Demarre McGill, Principal Flutist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and Corvin Matei of the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra.
Alongside teaching, I maintain an active international performing career. I am the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Adun Music Ensemble in London and have served as Principal Flutist with orchestras across Africa and the United Kingdom. My performance highlights include appearing at the King Charles III Coronation Concert in the UK, performing at The O2 Arena in London, and collaborating with Gabriel Prokofiev, grandson of the renowned composer Sergei Prokofiev. I have also performed with the Stellenbosch University Concert Orchestra in South Africa, collaborated with the Chineke Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank, and featured in a performance and interview on BBC Radio.
Whether you are beginning the flute for the first time or seeking to refine your skills at an advanced level, I look forward to helping you grow into a confident and expressive musician. I would be delighted to work with you and support you throughout your musical journey.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is supportive, structured, and tailored to each student’s individual goals and pace. I believe learning the flute should be both enjoyable and rewarding, so I focus on building a strong foundation while keeping lessons engaging and motivating.
In my lessons, students work on essential flute techniques such as breath control, tone production, posture, finger coordination, and musical expression. I break down concepts into simple, practical exercises that help students develop confidence and steady progress.
I adapt my approach depending on the student’s level and interests. Beginners learn the fundamentals step by step in a relaxed and encouraging environment, while more advanced students focus on repertoire, phrasing, musical interpretation, and performance skills.
My goal is to help each student develop a beautiful flute tone, solid technique, and a lasting appreciation for music while making every lesson productive, inspiring, and enjoyable.
