David Francis
About
I am a concert pianist, recording pianist for film, recording artist with 8 commercially available CDs, composer, accompanist and arranger. I am best known for my ability to improve technique and musicality effectively.
I am a gifted vocal coach and arranger for singers and am known for creating winning talent presentations and a talented song writing instructor.
Teaching Style
I teach a limited number of teenage and adult piano students and have recently re-located to the Atlanta area. My experience includes teaching piano for over 50 years, arranging for and accompanying singers including Metropolitan opera performers, pageant talent winners, cabaret performers and others in a wide variety of styles. I also accompany instrumentalists.
I have seven CD recordings of my solo piano performance, another CD with two pianos and another with orchestra. I am the recording pianist of films such as Pursuit of Happyness, Fame, and Elegy.
I have performed solo piano concerts from Italy to the United States and received raves from critics. I have received the ASCAP Plus award multiple times for composition and received a nomination for Best Score from the prestigious Los Angeles Drama Circle Awards.
I am the creator, composer and musical arranger of the award winning and smash hit BARK! The Musical. I have served as musical director of multiple productions of the show in Los Angeles, Chicago, Key West, Edinburgh, Scotland, Asheville and other cities. I have also served a musical director of the opera Dead Man Walking and innumerable other musical presentations.
Curriculum
My belief is that honesty, direct communication and a supportive approach are critical to teaching successfully. I do not believe in abuse.
My pedagogy is tailored to the needs and talents of each individual whether they play the piano or sing.
I have a B.M. degree with Distinction from Rhodes College but my real world experience in performance, recording, accompanying and musically directing informs my teaching. I have played the piano for 60 years.
