About
I have developed a very direct way to teach intonation. This and supporting structure is all I want to teach.
I have recently published this method in a book on Amazon called, "27 Progressive Intonation Exercises for Violin".
Here is a description of the book.
These exercises cover 9 different positions on the violin and each position has 3 levels of difficulty. The positions range from 1st to 10th. The exercises move (without shifting) laterally across the instrument to reinforce finger spacing in each different position. They are all designed in the key of C major and generally follow the standard scale patterns. There are some deviations to extend the range of the exercises so they are more thorough. There are 4 absolute checking mechanisms and one relative mechanism used in these exercises. Using these mechanisms each position can be located precisely at the beginning of each exercise. The mechanisms also occur systematically throughout the body of the exercises to reinforce certain scale positions. The overall result is that from 1st to 10th position 68% of the natural notes can be absolutely located.
I used my engineering skills combined with violin study and music theory to create this text. Since my method is highly systematized I was able to extrapolate it to Viola and Cello.
ENGINEERING / TECHNICAL
Graduated from Lawrence Technological University in 1988 with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering.
I have 39 years of engineering experience, 35 at Fiat Chrysler (Now Stellantis).
My strengths are: system level thinking, organizing, mathematical problem solving and creativity.
I have 8 years of drafting, 8 years of lab work and 23 years in 3D computer engineering models and mathematical problem solving. I have two U.S. Patents 1) US5,675,505A , 2) US9702465B1. I have developed 7 professional software packages that are used in Fiat Chrysler Engineering Facilities World Wide.
I have written 20 or so administrative and hundreds of technical analysis reports / presentations.
TEACHING in ENGINEERING
I was required to setup my own class material and teach classes on my software to the community. I had 7 different software programs that I was required to teach and support. This teaching activity ranged from 2006 to 2017 about 11 years. My software was juried by the engineering community and approved for use in Fiat Chrysler facilities around the world.
HEALTH AND FITNESS
Registered Yoga Instructor -volunteered to help troubled teens (2001 - 2017).
I practice Hatha, Ashtanga, and Yin Yoga.
I also run and lift weights
Teaching Style
I am extremely focused on the students' style of learning. I will adapt immediately and progressively to your style.
I am very systematic and will take notes on what works and what does not work for each individual. I will create a different teaching style for each student.
Curriculum
My teaching method is strongly linked to the students' style of learning. Once I understand you and we find something that works I will systematize that and develop it further as I learn more about you.
