About

My name is Dylyn, I am from the United States, and I have been playing the flute for 18 years. I have a strong passion for musical theater and experimental music. I have performed with chamber ensembles, orchestral ensembles, jazz bands, marching bands, theater pit bands, as well as solo performances. I also enjoy practicing and teaching pop and rock music as well. I have multiple degrees in music performance and audio production. I began teaching in 2014 and have worked with children, teens, adults, and college students, both flute lessons and music theory. My lessons are designed to meet your goals and in a way that is fun and something you can look forward to.

Teaching Style

I don't have one single style of teaching. As each student has their own unique needs and way of learning, I change how I teach to fit each student. I have worked with students who struggle with high anxiety and learn better in an easygoing, flexible atmosphere and others have benefited from a more stern lesson. Some learn better with pictures and mental visualization while others excel learning by ear. I tend to take a relaxed, visual approach with students and make changes as necessary. My goal is for every student to look forward to their lessons and to progress in a way that feels comfortable and fun.

Curriculum

I like to start out with music that is familiar to the student not only as a fun warm-up, but to also give me a sense of what their playing abilities are. Depending on what each student's goals are, we will work together to pick out materials or work with what the student already has at their disposal. I will usually begin a lesson with a check-in of how practice has gone since the previous lesson, a brief review of scales (if the students is at a level to do so), and a warm-up with material the student enjoys. We will then address any struggles the student had during their own practice and continue working towards their goal. I always stress to students to begin on a good note and end on a good note. The learning process can be frustrating and it's important to not walk away from a lesson or practice session angry or stressed. I will usually end my lessons with something short and fun. This can be the same as the warm-up material or something different.
