About

Hello! I am a 2024 summa cum laude graduate from Gordon College with a B.M. in Music Education. I have experience teaching general music grades K-8, as well as beginning band and beginner instrumental lessons. I have been playing the flute for 14 years and teaching private instrumental lessons for 3 years to kids and adults alike. I have professional experience playing in concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands, and religious settings.

Teaching Style

The best way to learn is to love what you are learning! The main goal of the lessons will be what the student wants to focus on. It could be a genre of music, a specific technique, or just wanting to learn how to put sound into the instrument! I will also focus on teaching tone, technique, music theory, sight-reading, and ear training. My goal is to create a fun and supportive atmosphere, while also challenging the student so they can achieve their goals.

Curriculum

What to Expect in Each Lesson

  • Warming up with 5-10 minutes of technique, tone production, and scales.
  • Teaching and assessing progress on student’s desired and teacher’s suggested repertoire.
  • Learning and practicing reading notes and counting rhythms.
  • Practicing sight-reading and playing by ear.

There is no one flute method book that I follow but I select from a wide variety of flute method books, solo books, and etude books that I own to cater to each students' needs.

Private practicing is an integral part of learning any instrument. I will recommend how much to practice and what to practice depending on the student. However the extent of practicing is up to the student and is never required.
