Emanuele D'Onofrio
About
Hi! I'm Emanuele. I'm an Italian composer, pianist, and musicologist with over 15 years of experience. After graduating in Italy, I received my Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto (one of the top universities in the world).
My music has been performed internationally by several performers, ensembles, and orchestras (such as Massimiliano Damerini, Emily Rocha, Katya Popylansky, Kendra Grittani, Joel Goodfellow, Bella Czyrnyj, MIR Orchestra, Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.)
As a pianist, I have been active both as a soloist and accompanist/collaborator for singers, instrumentalists, ensembles and choirs in public and private events (such as Napoli Cultural Classic, Piano City, National Theatre Festival of Casamarciano, Fondo Ambiente Italiano, Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto) and TV programmes (Italia's got talent 2011.)
My research interests cover 20th-century and contemporary music, as well as the relationship between music and society. I regularly publish my essays and papers in international journals.
Teaching Style
I've been teaching for more than 10 years to people of any level and age, from young kids to adults, from beginners to University students. I have been a teacher in private schools and a Teaching Assistant at the Federico II University of Naples (Italy) and the University of Toronto.
I can teach Composition, Music Theory, Piano, Music History, Orchestration, and Arrangement.
In my experience as a teacher, I have always let the students be free to express their inner self, and their individuality, through music. I believe the teacher’s mission is to show the student the different paths, techniques, and methods, past and current, and then let them pick what they need to express themselves, while supporting them in this process of building their own artistic identity.
Practically, I always help the student develop strong foundations of music theory, harmony, counterpoint, instrumentation and orchestration, and musical forms in a historical context. I believe this process is essential to cultivate their musical language and artistic features.
I tailor every lesson plan to the student, recognizing that each individual has specific and different needs, always aiming at the best way to make them passionate about what they do and learn. After all, music is one of the greatest and most enthralling forms of artistic expression, and passion gives substance and motivation to the learning process. The decision to study music allows for personal growth and is beneficial for the body, intellect, and soul. It would be an honor to guide you through this learning path and enrich your knowledge and sensibility with new and undiscovered skills!
