Emily Claman
About
Emily Claman is a professional flutist residing in Houston, TX. She has played the flute for nearly 15 years, receiving her Bachelor's of Music in Flute Performance from DePaul University and a Masters of Music in Flute Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. Emily has played with a variety of orchestras including the Bozeman Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Syracuse Symphony. Additionally, she has played and performed with other ensembles such as the Eastman Wind Ensemble and a variety of smaller chamber ensembles including flute trios and woodwind quintets.
Teaching Style
Passionate about teaching, Emily has taught both adult students, middle and high school aged students, and students as young as 8 years old. Before moving to Houston, Emily served on the faculty at the Eastman Community Music School, where she maintained a studio of students. Emily's teaching style can be described as structured and fun! Depending on the level of the student, a typical lesson will start with tone exercises, then scales/etudes, and finally a solo piece of repertoire. I always leave room for questions, encourage students to learn to play and interpret things in different ways, and like to sometimes demonstrate by example (I play something, then you try to match me).
Curriculum
Depends on the level, though I typically encourage the Trevor Wye books and the Melodious and Progressive Studies books.
