Emma Feldman
About
Hi! I'm Emmalee - a Nashville raised singer-songwriter! I've grown up in the music industry, writing, recording, and performing live for the past 20 years. I performed on Season 19 of The Voice as part of Team Kelly. I've since been writing and recording in the film and tv industry with my songs being used by Freeform, Snickers, and some awesome indie filmmakers. I take the lessons I've learned on my own vocal and songwriting journey and bring them to my students in a way that caters to their natural tone, personality, and vocal style!
Teaching Style
Teaching Style:
I know the frustration that comes with hearing a song and wanting to perform it just like the artist, but often times we lack the technical skills to do so, even if the tone and desire is 100% there! During my time on The Voice, I learned techniques that helped me develop my own "mix" register, overcoming the infamous, and often times frustrating vocal break. For the first time I began singing the songs I always wanted to sing with power and confidence. I take the skills and techniques I learned, not only on The Voice, but also over my years of vocal training, and work with my students on their personal goals.
Whether your goal is to sing with more emotion, power, pitch accuracy, breath control, range, or a combination of some or all of these things, you have the tools to do so! I like to develop a strong working relationship with my students, learning their voices and trouble shooting along the way. I create a safe space for my students to experiment, learn, grow, and sing imperfectly, because when we embrace those imperfections we learn how to grow!
Along with vocal coaching, I'm a passionate songwriter and love giving kind, clear, and encouraging input on original songs!
My lessons are all about creating a supportive space where you can experiment, grow, and have a blast. Let's chat about your goals and get you singing (and maybe writing) with joy!
Curriculum
I have a collection of vocal exercises I have tailored and recorded for my students that target different issues and strengthen the voice in different ways. I take a holistic approach and often times we uncover multiple issues as we work together on your goals. I've found it's often helpful to have a "training ground" to apply these skills we're learning through repetition and discipline with vocal exercises by working on a song. I typically spend half the lesson working on vocal exercises and ensuring my students understand how the techniques are supposed to feel. Then we take those new techniques and apply them practically in our "training ground" song.
Credentials & Affiliations
Although I didn't choose to go down the traditional college path, I have years of experience training under vocal coaches that range in style from classical to contemporary to somatic, as well as the bonus of working daily with vocal coaches during my time on Season 19 of The Voice. I've spent most of my life in the studio recording as well as performing on stage and have learned what works best for vocal performance live and in the studio for myself. I know there's no "one size fits all" technique for vocal performance and sometimes what has worked for me, won't work for others. I help my students experiment with their vocal ranges, tones, and styles and learn what correct singing feels like while maintaining what makes their voice their own!
