Fernando Acedo Sosa
About
Hello! I'm Fernando and since 2005 I've had the privilege of sharing my passion for music through teaching the guitar. During this time, I've had the honor of guiding over 100 students on their musical journeys, feeling truly rewarded and fulfilled. My students come from diverse backgrounds; some are musicians seeking growth, while others are individuals who, despite dreaming of playing the guitar all their lives, never found the right moment due to work and daily obligations. Working with the latter is an especially rewarding experience for me, as helping people fulfill their dreams is one of my greatest life goals. I also have a particular affinity and extensive experience teaching children and teenagers.
I've been studying music for 30 years and have never stopped taking lessons. My training covers various genres, from Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock, and Brazilian music to classical music, harmony, and counterpoint. Additionally, I specialize in music production using new technologies, which has enriched my musical perspective and teaching style by incorporating them into my classes. Over the past 12 years, I've immersed myself in the incredible world of Argentine Tango, working with truly outstanding teachers and specializing in the genre. Over the years, I've integrated these diverse influences into my teaching style, creating a personalized, relaxed, and above all, fun approach.
In addition to my dedication to music, I've been practicing transcendental meditation for 10 years, and I also dedicate time to yoga and running. These practices have not only helped maintain balance in my life but have also strengthened my pedagogical approach, allowing me to offer classes with an open and focused mind, positive energy, and above all, a lot of patience.
As a professional musician, I've had the opportunity to participate in over 500 live shows as a guitarist and musical director. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to contribute to the recording, production, mixing, and arrangement of over 15 albums. I'm also a music score transcriber for the publishing house SONY ATV, a job that radically changed my life as a musician because it not only enriched my auditory skills but also elevated my level of musical reading and writing to the maximum. This constant challenge has allowed me to grow significantly in my career.
Currently, together with my wife, the talented singer Lujan Vera, we form the duo Vera Acedo. We have released two albums under the Típica Records label and are working on an exciting Electronic Tango project. In my free time, I love composing folk songs and instrumental music.
"I'm eager to share my experience and knowledge with you on your musical journey. I hope that together we can achieve your goals and enjoy the learning process."
Let me know if you need any further adjustments or if there's anything else I can assist you with!
Teaching Style
I greatly enjoy giving classes to students of all ages and levels. I focus on the individual needs of each student, providing personalized lessons and always striving to offer the best in each session. My pedagogical approach involves carefully planning lessons, addressing the most important aspects of the guitar, which I consider to be technique, ear training, essential theory, reading, and learning specific pieces within the chosen musical genre. However, it's important to clarify that with each person, we choose where to focus the work, what their goals and objectives are.
I like to establish practice routines between classes to ensure efficient study and avoid wasting unnecessary and valuable time deciding which exercises to do or which pieces to play. Maintaining a clear and worry-free approach, knowing what to do each day, is fundamental. Additionally, I provide PDF material for free in all my classes.
My goal is to help each student gain confidence in their abilities and learn to enjoy music as much as I do. My classes are fun, stress-free, but fully committed. I take pride in my patience, and I've developed the belief that there are numerous paths to achieve musical goals, and it's the teacher's responsibility to find the right approach for each student.
Curriculum
I have always pursued my studies with private teachers, and I have always enjoyed researching on my own and at my own pace. I never believed that there was only one correct way to study, so I dedicated myself to learning from the best teachers and books I could find.
Some of my teachers include:
- Jazz/Blues/Bossa Nova guitar and jazz harmony with Ricardo Pellican.
- Tango accompaniment and solo guitar with professors Hugo Rivas, Dipi Kvitko, and Pino Enriquez.
- Classical harmony and arrangements for typical tango orchestra with Juan Pablo Gallardo.
- Harmony, composition, and counterpoint with Maestro Edgar Ferrer (director of the Symphony Orchestra of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires).
- Specialized seminars in tango and harmony with Mirta Alvarez, Diego Schhichi, and Rodolfo Mederos.
The books that have changed my musical life include:
- "Fundamental Training for Musicians" by Paul Hindemith.
- "Technique Book for the Right Hand" by Abel Carlevaro.
- "Tango and Its Possibilities" by Pino Enriquez.
- "The Guitar in Tango" by Sebastián EHenriquez.
