Gabriel Davila
About
Hi, my name is Gabriel Dávila and I am Guitarist from Caracas, Venezuela.
I’ve been involved with music all my life, playing violin as a kid, moving on to electric bass and finally settling with the guitar as a teenager and I haven’t looked back since. I started, as many of us do, as a rock guitarist learning from records of my favorite bands. As I progressed I decided to pursue music professionally and went to college to study classical guitar. I loved it but felt I needed more artistic freedom and decided to pursue a Master’s in Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon. Ever since, I have been playing professionally in many diverse ensembles, including recording my own music on a couple of occasions, while also teaching privately and in a variety of schools.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is rooted in technique and music theory but adaptable to all styles of music. While the guitar is a very versatile instrument I believe you can be fluent in many different genres if you have a solid musical foundation. I adapt this foundation to whatever repertoire you like and always provide PDFs with all the info and ways to practice.
Curriculum
I provide my own material but depending on the level of the student and area they wish to explore I recommend a variety of books.
