Gianluca Iadema
About
I am a pianist, composer, visual artist, and educator with over five years of experience teaching the Yamaha method to students of all ages. I hold a classical piano diploma from the Conservatory of Brescia, and I continued my studies in composition, music education, and electronic music at the University of the Arts in Graz and the Hochschule der Künste in Bern. My artistic practice spans immersive audiovisual installations, acoustic and electronic performance, and AI-based generative systems, with works presented internationally from Cape Town to Copenhagen. As an educator, I have guided more than 90 students, ages 3 to 60, in piano, composition, and electronic music, always aiming to cultivate technical skill, artistic awareness, and creative freedom.
Teaching Style
My teaching is centered on a deep connection between mind, eye, and ear. I focus on building musical awareness and interpretive depth through personalized methods that cultivate attention, technique, and expressive freedom. I believe passion is the core of artistic development, it must be nourished, not constrained. I encourage each student to explore their unique voice while supporting them with structured, clear guidance. My aim is to help students grow technically and emotionally, developing confidence, sensitivity, and joy in their music-making.
Curriculum
For piano beginners, I recommend Beyer Op. 101, Burgmüller studies, and Bach's 19 Little Preludes, as these foundational works are excellent for developing finger independence, phrasing, and musical expression. When teaching harmony and counterpoint, I often draw from classic theoretical texts such as Gradus ad Parnassum by Johann Joseph Fux, Harmonielehre by Arnold Schoenberg, Formenlehre by Erwin Ratz, The Study of Counterpoint (Knoll/Schenker edition), and Piston's Harmony, as well as selected materials from the Hindemith and Reicha schools. For electronic music, I combine my own academic handouts with seminal writings by Pierre Schaeffer, particularly his Treatise on Musical Objects, Michel Chion, Curtis Roads and his Microsound, and other contemporary works on sound art and digital composition. My lessons are always tailored to the student’s level and interests, aiming to connect historical depth with creative exploration.
