About

I started playing violin at the age of eight and fell in love with music.  I played in the Vermont Youth Orchestra. in high school and made some of my best friends that I still perform with!  I decided to pursue music performance at the University of Vermont.  While there, I started teaching private violin lessons and working at summer music camps and I found that I really enjoyed working with students of all ages.  I added a music education degree to my music performance degree and graduated with both.  After teaching in a public school for several years, I decided to pursue a Master's degree in music education.  I have taught hundreds of students to play violin, viola, cello, bass.  I have played violin for 40 years, have been a public school music teacher for 24 years, and have been teaching violin lessons for 28 years.  I can't wait to meet my new students!

Teaching Style

We will work on the goals you have as a student.  If you are more advanced, we can work on tone, technique, or a more advanced solo piece.  If you are intermediate, we can work on technique, intonation, vibrato, or whatever will take you to the next level!   If you are a beginner, we will work on producing a beautiful tone and learn to read notes.  The most important aspect of playing for students at any level is creating a beautiful sound that you will love to hear!   Note reading is important, too, so we'll work on that - once you can read music, you will be able to play any of your favorite songs!

Curriculum

For strings, I use the method book, "Strictly Strings."  For wind instruments, I use "Tradition of Excellence."  Our first focus will be making a beautiful sound on your instrument.  After that, we will focus on note reading.  I can't wait to get started!
