About

These lessons are designed to help you develop stronger time, deeper feel, and real confidence behind the drum set. The focus isn’t on flashy chops or isolated exercises — it’s on becoming more musical, more natural, and more comfortable in real playing situations.

Through years of touring and performing in a wide range of live settings, I’ve learned that great drumming isn’t about how much you can play — it’s about how well you listen, how steady your time feels, and how confidently you support the music. That perspective shapes every lesson.

I primarily work with adult drummers who already have a foundation and want to break through a plateau. Whether you’re refining your groove, improving consistency, or looking to feel more confident in a band setting, lessons are built around practical application and long-term musical growth.

Teaching Style

My lessons are centered around real musical application. From the first session, we build around the music you’re actually into — using custom or style-specific backing tracks so you’re developing time, feel, and groove in a real playing context.

Rather than separating exercises from music, we work on fundamentals inside actual musical situations. That means improving consistency, control, and awareness while playing along — not just practicing in isolation.

The goal is simple: better time, deeper feel, stronger pocket — and the confidence to sit down at any drum set and make it feel great.

Lessons are focused, practical, and tailored to your goals. Whether you’re refining feel, tightening consistency, or leveling up your overall musical awareness on the drum set, we work on what truly moves the needle.

Curriculum

Lessons are structured but flexible, focused on strengthening fundamentals while applying them directly to real musical situations. Each session is tailored to your level, goals, and musical interests.

Core areas of focus include:

• Internal time, feel, and consistency
• Efficient technique and relaxed ergonomics
• Groove development and pocket awareness
• Independence and coordination
• Musical listening and reactive playing

Most lessons are built around playing with music, backing tracks, guided groove studies, and custom exercises designed specifically for the individual student. When helpful, I may reference established method books to support specific technical or coordination goals.

Optional reference materials may include:

Stick Control — coordination and control
Syncopation — reading and groove application
The New Breed — independence and musical awareness

All material is adapted to real musical contexts so it translates directly to rehearsals, sessions, and live performance.

Student Expectations

Students should have access to a drumset or electronic kit for lessons. While this may be your first formal drum lesson, a basic ability to play foundational grooves and keep time is recommended, as sessions focus on developing feel, consistency, and musical application rather than learning the instrument completely from scratch.
