About

I am an alto saxophonist based in Denver, Colorado, and a graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where I earned a B.A. in Global Jazz Studies with a 3.83 GPA. During my time at UCLA, I performed extensively in large ensembles and small jazz combos, participated in educational outreach programs, and studied privately with renowned saxophonists including Mark Turner and Azar Lawrence. These experiences have given me a strong foundation in both performance and musical communication.

My teaching and mentorship experience began with the Paul Carr Jazz Academy and Summer Camp. As a student and later as a volunteer, I assisted instructors with rehearsals, demonstrations, and ensemble coaching. This work taught me the importance of structured lesson planning, student engagement, and creating a supportive learning environment for young musicians.

I am passionate about helping students develop solid fundamentals, technical skills, and confidence while fostering a lasting appreciation for jazz and saxophone performance. My approach emphasizes structured, step-by-step instruction tailored to each student’s level and learning style, combining technical development with creative expression.

Teaching Style

My teaching style emphasizes building a strong foundation in fundamentals while gradually introducing more advanced concepts. I focus on tone production, technique, rhythm, articulation, and musical expression, tailoring lessons to each student’s skill level and learning pace.

I approach jazz instruction by breaking down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps. This includes guiding students through improvisation, ensemble playing, and listening exercises in a way that connects theory to practical application. I prioritize creating a structured, supportive environment that encourages curiosity, confidence, and creativity.

Lessons are highly individualized, with a balance between technical development and creative exploration. My goal is to help students not only improve as musicians but also develop a lifelong appreciation for jazz and the saxophone.
