About

I am Dr. Henny Kupferstein, creator of the patented, evidence-based Doogri Method® Piano Curriculum. My lifelong passion for music and education has led me to develop innovative approaches that make piano learning accessible, joyful, and meaningful for students of all ages and abilities. With formal training in music therapy and a doctorate in psychology, I bring a unique blend of practical teaching experience and research-based insight to every lesson. My curriculum is designed to nurture confidence, creativity, and musical independence, regardless of a student’s starting point.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and highly individualized. I believe that every student learns best when their interests and strengths are honored. I foster a supportive environment where students feel comfortable exploring music at their own pace, and I adapt my methods to suit diverse learning styles. My priority is to make lessons enjoyable and empowering, focusing on each student’s personal goals and musical journey.

Curriculum

I teach using the Doogri Method® Piano Curriculum, which is structured to support gradual, meaningful progress for beginners through intermediate players. Recommended materials include:

  • The Doogri Method® Piano Curriculum: Red Book 1 and Orange Book 2

  • Custom exercises and supplemental resources tailored to each student

  • Ear training, improvisation, and creative activities integrated into lessons

I also incorporate visual aids, technology, and hands-on activities to enhance engagement and understanding. AAC, RPM and Spelling 2 Communicate, nonspeakers welcome. 

 

Credentials & Affiliations

I hold a Ph.D. in Psychology, which enables me to provide comprehensive support to students in their unique journeys. Additionally, I am trained in music therapy from the State University of New York, equipping me to assist students with diverse learning styles. Through classical piano lessons, I employ my patented Doogri Method™ piano curriculum, designed to achieve the best outcomes for students aspiring to master note-reading in the classical tradition.

As a proud member of the American Psychological Association (APA), I stay updated on the latest research concerning well-being and thriving. With extensive experience as an international presenter and workshop leader, I deliver dynamic, live lessons tailored to the needs of each session, ensuring that music-making is accessible and enjoyable for all. I hold a Level 1 certification from Soma for spelling to communicate integration with nonspeaking autistic students.
