About

My name is Henri, I am passionate about music and education from emotions. I started learning my first chords when I was 9 years old and since then I have not stopped learning and teaching. I am also a composer and I have produced my own music: you can find me on musical platforms as Colportor and also as Henri Rojas. if you like my music you will love my lessons.

I combine the best of:
- Classical guitar technique
- Blues
- Folk
- Indie
- Bossa
- Jazz.

I have a degree in music as classical guitarrist from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. I love plucked string instruments such as ukulele, charango, ronroco, Venezuelan cuatro, among others. I began studying guitar at the age of 10 years old and I have been learning this beautiful discipline for more than 25 years. My academic approach to music began in the field of classical music and expanded to popular music, freestyle guitar, and Latin American folklore.

Teaching Style

I have more than 15 years of experience teaching guitar, from children to seniors. in private lessons, music academies, schools, and also in group workshops. That´s why I have developed my own method, through experience I have learned that one of the best things a teacher can do is to have his student come to love music with passion. That is why my approach is holistic.

Many people learn music by ear alone, which stimulates their creativity and emotional connection. But what about understanding how music works? That understanding develops our logical thinking and helps us achieve a unique balance. My focus is on both hemispheres: the right to connect with our emotions and the left to understand music theory. It's a complete way to learn!

I am convinced that music can help us grow as human beings. For that reason, my method leads us to learn your instrument, harmony and music theory, while we enter the fascinating world of emotions. I want to share with you more than music, I want to share with you strategies that will help you to an integral development, because that is what music appeals to, it has the ability to penetrate to the deepest part of us.

Music is the universal language of emotions. Through it, we can discover incredible strategies to regulate how we feel. In my case, it has been a wonderful tool to channel emotions such as anxiety, sadness, anger and even joy.

The things you remember most in your life are associated with strong emotions. Therefore, if we learn music with passion, we will enjoy not only achieving some learning goals, but also the process itself. I provide the content and motivation, and you add discipline and have fun while learning.

Curriculum

My focus is on the importance of incentivizing learning. For this reason, the first thing I do is interview the student.

What is your experience with the instrument?
What are your learning expectations?
What music do you listen to the most?

After getting to know my student a little bit better, I propose an integral development that consists of:

- Technique, to play well.
- Theory and harmony, to know what we are playing.
- Listening, to improve our auditory “palate”.
- All of the above in function of PLAYING the music we like the most.

In a complementary way, we are interweaving learning with emotional education, speaking from the Mayer-Salovey model, and using an instrument that helps us to identify emotions: The mood meter. With this we get even closer to music as a language of emotions, and also as a strategy for emotional regulation.

From classical guitar we take everything related to technique, especially the right hand, we learn many exercises from a book called: Pumping nylon. From jazz we take especially harmony concepts. And we choose the repertoire by mutual agreement, since this way the student also gets to play the songs he or she dreamed of playing.
