Jason Greenlaw
About
I'm a professional guitarist, composer, and educator based in Denver, Colorado, with over a decade of experience performing and teaching across a wide range of styles. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, where I studied under seminal jazz guitarist Joe Negri and improvisation with renowned pianist Geri Allen.
My performing career has taken me from jazz clubs to opera houses — I've performed with the Pittsburgh Opera, worked as guitarist and vocalist with the Hazel Miller Collective, and collaborated with Berklee College of Music educator Tomo Fujita and the Sugar Hill Gang through my work with John Page Classic Guitars. I regularly lead my jazz trio, perform solo, and front two original projects: Superimposition and Sixth Wind.
As a teacher, my focus is on helping students build a deep, flexible understanding of the guitar — not just learning songs, but understanding why music works. My lesson content covers solo transcription and analysis, music theory applied directly to the fretboard, and technique and improvisation development. Whether you're a complete beginner or an advancing player who has hit a ceiling, I'll meet you where you are and build a path forward.
Teaching Style
I believe the fastest path to real growth on guitar is learning to hear, analyze, and internalize music — not just repeat it. My lessons draw on jazz pedagogy but apply equally to any style. Expect to work on ear training, line analysis, and connecting theory to what you're actually playing.
