About

National Old-Time Fiddle Champion Jesse Maw has been performing since age five, moving fluently through old-time, bluegrass, swing, Gypsy-jazz, fusion and beyond. He’s shared stages with icons such as Mark O’Connor, Jerry Douglas, Brent Mason and Gonzalo Bergara, and has coached at the Shasta Music Summit, Crown of the Continent Guitar Festival and DjangoFest NW. Offstage, Jesse produces HD lesson videos, play-along tracks, and creative practice challenges that motivate fiddlers around the world to push stylistic boundaries and refine their craft.

Teaching Style

My lessons are 100% student-centered: we zero in on the tunes, techniques and styles that light you up—whether that’s your first shuffle bow, contest-ready breakdowns or bebop lines on electric fiddle. I teach mainly by ear to build phrasing and groove, but I supply clear PDFs, lead sheets and slowed-down play-alongs on request.

Each session blends —

  • Style vocabulary: old-time, bluegrass, swing, Gypsy-jazz, Texas-style

  • Technique micro-drills for tone, speed and bow control

  • Creative skills: improvisation, arranging, composition

  • Mindset & performance psychology tools to conquer stage nerves

All ages and levels (violin or mandolin) are welcome. Expect actionable practice plans, HD recap clips and honest feedback that turns practice time into rapid, measurable progress.
