Teaching Style

Her teaching approach emphasizes a personalized learning experience tailored to each student’s goals. The "singing straw method," also called "straw phonation," is one of the vocal exercises Jessie incorporates. This technique involves singing through a regular drinking straw to create resistance in the vocal tract, which helps the vocal cords vibrate more efficiently, improves vocal control, and reduces strain. It’s a highly effective way to practice singing with partially blocked airflow, benefiting voice quality and breath control. Whether you’re working on vocal control, songwriting, live performance, or recording techniques, her lessons are designed to inspire growth in a fun and encouraging environment. She emphasizes confidence-building, helping students overcome self-doubt and connect deeply with their craft. Jessie also enjoys guiding her students through exercises from "Singing for the Stars" by Seth Riggs, a modern classic of vocal instruction.
