About
Hi, I'm a professional guitarist with over 35 years experience as a performer, session guitarist and music teacher. I specialize in lead guitar improvisation incorporating a modern approach to music theory based on George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization and a fluid synergistic examination of technique that aims towards eliminating excessive finger movement whilst optimizing fingerboard reach and reducing hand fatigue, and facilitating good tone, articulation and intonation.
Teaching Style
Every student presents with unique strengths and weaknesses and I pride myself on an adaptive, flexible approach to tuition that seeks to make the instrument an extension of the guitarist so that the process of improvisation and performance becomes as natural and effortless as chatting to an old friend or singing in the shower. A systematic, logical study of diatonic, pentatonic and symmetrical harmony and melody, and a thorough examination of the modal diatonic system unlocks the fretboard from an intellectual perspective. While an adaptive, flexible approach to technique facilitates the guitarists ability to effortlessly execute musical ideas with the same ease as a great singer. Combine these musical and technical approaches with ear training and a solid study of groove, compound meter and poly-rhythms and guitarist and guitar become one !
Curriculum
I teach in a one on one setting, getting to know each students strengths and weakness and tailoring the learning experience on a student by student basis. My goal is to remove all barriers both mental and physical that impede the complete symbiotic unification of guitarist and guitar. In simple terms my mission as your teacher is to get you to the holy grail of being able to play what your hear in your head as naturally as if you were singing. Trust me, there is no better feeling for an improvising musician !
