About

I have been playing guitar for over 20 years, with a foundation built on both Classical and Electric guitar. This cross-disciplinary background gave me a deep understanding of technique, tone, and musical theory that goes far beyond just "learning chords."

To formalize and expand my musical education, I completed a 3-year Jazz Vocal program at the Barreiro School of Jazz at Portugal. During this time, I trained intensively as a vocalist and performed regularly as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in jazz combos. This experience was transformative: I had to master the art of maintaining complex rhythmic patterns on guitar while simultaneously delivering expressive, pitch-accurate vocals — a skill that most guitarists never fully develop.

Following my formal training, I served as the President of the Tunadao 1998. During this period, I performed as a lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist at an average frequency of one concert every two days in venues such as Teatro Viriato, Viseu and IPV Aula Magna. That level of live performance exposure taught me discipline, adaptability, and how to read what an audience (and a student) needs in the moment.

Teaching Style

My lessons are designed for students who want to become complete acoustic guitar players — not just someone who can play a few chords in isolation, but someone who can sit down, pick up their guitar, and perform a song from beginning to end. Over the past 10 years, I have taught students ranging from beginners to advanced players, always adapting my approach to their individual goals.

I specialize in:

  • Rhythm & Strumming Mastery: From basic patterns to complex syncopated grooves (including Bossa Nova and Latin rhythms).

  • Chord Vocabulary: Open chords, barre chords, chord inversions, and how to use them musically — not just mechanically.

  • Scales & Harmony: Practical music theory applied directly to the songs you want to play. No boring lectures — only what you actually need.

  • Guitar & Vocals Simultaneously: This is my signature focus. I teach you how to coordinate rhythm, chord changes, and singing so that your voice and guitar become one natural performance.

Genres I cover: Acoustic Pop, Classic Rock, Indie/Folk, Blues, Jazz Standards, and Bossa Nova/Latin Music. Whether you want to build a strong technical foundation or simply play your favorite songs, I will help you coordinate your voice and guitar into one natural performance.

Curriculum

I believe the fastest way to learn is through music you already love. In your first lesson, we discuss what songs inspire you and we build a personalised roadmap from there. Every concept — rhythm, theory, chord transitions — is taught in the direct context of real music, never in isolation.

My method is structured around three pillars:

  1. Technical Foundation First: We build solid fundamentals (posture, right-hand rhythm, clean chord changes) from the very beginning. Bad habits are much harder to fix than to prevent.

  2. Song-Based Learning: Every technique is immediately applied to a real song. You will always leave the lesson with something you can play and show others.

  3. Voice & Guitar Integration: For students who also want to sing, I dedicate focused time to the mental and physical coordination required to do both at once — a process I know intimately from years of live performance.
