About
I hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Houghton University (2022) and a Master of Music in Music Education from SUNY Potsdam (2023). My training includes flute studies with Angela McBrearty and Brian Dunbar, and I’ve had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with world-renowned flutists Amy Porter and Marianne Gedigian.
Professionally, I have taught private flute and piccolo lessons and performed regularly during my time in Potsdam. My performance experience includes playing in both collegiate and professional ensembles, such as the Orchestra of Northern New York and various university wind ensembles and orchestras.
I have two years of experience teaching K–12 general and instrumental music in the Rochester City School District, where I currently teach. I also serve as a wind instructor for the district-wide marching band, supporting students across the city in developing both technical and ensemble skills.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is student-centered, culturally responsive, and highly adaptive. I prioritize creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students can build confidence in their abilities while also developing fluency, musicality, and technical skill.
When teaching flute, I take a traditional approach that emphasizes strong tone quality as a foundation. Lessons typically include tone exercises, sight reading, and opportunities to play along with backing tracks to strengthen both fluency and ear training. I tailor each lesson to the student’s level and learning style, maintaining structure while also leaving room for fun and flexibility.
Above all, I aim to help students become confident, expressive musicians who feel empowered to grow at their own pace.
