John Hutchinson

Since graduating from the Royal College of Music, London in 1999 I have spent the past 25 years performing and recording on trumpet with many of the UK's leading orchestras and pop acts. These include English National Opera, Royal Opera, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Vanessa Mae, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies, Ronan Keating and Bjork.

Alongside my performing career, I have always been passionate about music education, and have experience teaching in schools and colleges as well as privately. As well as my private tuition studio, I am the Trumpet Tutor at Shrewsbury School and Head of Brass at Sedbergh School. I also travel to Universities in Europe and North America as a visiting lecturer in Brass Pedagogy.

I currently teach young people from 7-year-old beginners to 20-year-old aspiring professionals, as well as adult students and "Comeback Players". Through all age groups and musical stages I concentrate on the same core features: Good fundamental technique based on excellent air support, and most importantly, building in musical repertoire to all lessons that challenges, that expands musical horizons, and above all...is FUN!
