About

Hi I'm Joey!

I'm a guitarist and bassist living in the Nashville area. I've been professionally gigging/recording for over 10 years, and teaching for over 5.

I attribute The Beatles to the reason that I fell in love with the guitar. Since then, I've listened and practiced multiple genres of music, as my love for music developed!

As a teacher, I love teaching songs and solos but I think it's important to develop musical independence, allowing yourself to understand how or why your favorite artists make the music you love, and how you can do it too! Learning an instrument isn't just about your hands and eyes, but your brain and ears as well.

I teach all levels of Guitar and Bass, and intermediate piano.

Teaching Style

Hands-on teaching style focused on empowering students to become well-rounded musicians, emphasizing creativity, improvisation, and mastery over imitation.

I encourage student-driven song and lesson topic choices to foster engagement and personal connection to their instrument. Letting the student lead on what they want to learn.

Whats your favorite band? Who's your favorite guitarist? Do you want to learn simple chords to accompany yourself singing, or do you want to learn how to play face melting solos? Anything in between? What makes a good musician?

There's so much to music that we can come at any angle to suit what your musical goals are for your instrument!

Curriculum

I tailor my teaching based on the students goals and learning style. What does the student want to get out of their lesson? What are their musical goals? Some students might want to go more in depth in the theory, and philosophy of music while some students have more focus with hands-on learning. I believe creating a fun learning environment for students is important to help keep them motivated and enjoying their instrument inside and outside of lessons.

Credentials & Affiliations

I've gigged and recorded with Michigan artists David Shelby and season 20, top 20 American Idol Performer, Jacob Moran. I fell in love with the art of teaching music, and between 2019 and 2024, I was a highly regarded instructor working at multiple School of Rock locations between Michigan and Ohio. Moving to the Nashville TN area, I've gigged and recorded with Nashville artists such as Adam Clavert, Ryan Robinette, and Damon Mitchell.
