Joshua Brazil
About
I’m an award-winning composer and a Berklee College of Music graduate, holding a Master’s degree in Composition for Film, Television, and Video Games. I’ve led studio sessions for my original scores with ensembles ranging from full orchestras—including AIR Studios and the Budapest Orchestra—to rock and pop bands.
In addition to composing, I’m an active guitarist, pianist, and keyboardist, regularly performing and recording with multiple bands at venues such as the House of Blues and the Whisky a Go Go.
I’ve also been teaching at the Irvine Academy of Music for several years, working with students of all ages and experience levels in a wide range of styles. I focus on making lessons engaging, practical, and tailored to each student—whether your goal is to play your favorite songs, improve your technique, or learn how to write and produce your own music.
Teaching Style
I take a gentle, student-centered approach and focus on keeping lessons fun and motivating. We usually start simple by learning the student’s favorite songs, then gradually introduce music theory concepts and apply them directly to the music we’re working on. This helps students understand why things work while still enjoying the process of playing and creating music.
Curriculum
My recommended texts change based on the students needs. But I usually like the Hal Leonard texts and for piano I like the John Thompson series.
